Ending Gender Violence

Everyone Has A Right To Be Raised In A Safe and Healthy Environment

A culture of gender violence and policies support culture infringe on women and femmes’ human right to bodily-autonomy and the ability to self-determine. Sexual harassment and assault is common in our communities, and lack of access to healthcare creates obstacles for individuals to manage the wellbeing of themselves and their families. These issues are woven into our schools. High occurrences of sexual misconduct in Miami Dade Public Schools are accompanied by high instances of youth STD rates with no access to appropriate education or support to eradicate these issues. Pregnant teens and young parents are not fully supported in a way that they can continue their educational pursuits in a holistic and intentional way.

Our Safe Schools for All Committee is a youth committee looking to hold school board members accountable for ensuring schools are safe for all by pushing for the following:

  • Implementing a comprehensive sex education curriculum which includes discussions on consent,  sexual harassment, and is LGBTQ+ affirming
  • More funding for “Trust Counselors” and staff that allow students to feel safer and supported
  • Pregnant teens and young parents receive appropriate child care resources
